What is cacao?

Cacao is the fermented, dried, and unprocessed beans of the cacao tree fruit. It is known for its antioxidant-rich properties and its deep, delicious flavor. Cacao is grown in tropical climates and, like grapes, can take many years before it begins producing mature, usable fruit. Many cultures have used cacao for centuries in their cooking, community rituals, as medicine, and even as currency.

What’s the difference between cacao, cocoa & chocolate?

Chocolate is cacao that has been roasted, ground and combined with milk and sugar.

Cocoa is made from cacao beans that have been processed with heat. This process can include roasting and alkalizing (Dutch processing) to reduce acidity, enhance flavor, but also removes some of the nutrients.

Cacao is the raw, unprocessed plant itself. The cacao nibs inside of the cacao beans are typically fermented, dried, roasted & ground down into a velvety paste and left to solidify at room temperature.

Here at Kismet Cacao, the solid cacao paste is broken into smaller pieces, chopped, and ground down to tiny bits that are easy to scoop, measure & melt down in hot liquid so that it can easily be enjoyed as a drink, without messing with the integrity of the cacao’s nutrients.

How do I prepare the Kismet Cacao Blends?

We recommend adding 1 teaspoon-1 tablespoon of our cacao blends to 1 cup of hot water, milk, or milk alternative. Our favorite way to prepare our cacao blends is with 1 tablespoon of cacao, 3/4 cup of hot water and 1/4 cup of full-fat coconut milk blended together for 10 seconds.

Do I need a blender to prepare the Kismet Cacao Blends ?

A blender is not necessary. However, we do notice that blending with a blender or handheld, electric whisks (such as our Tonic Blender!) yield the best results.

Our cacao blends are made up of mostly healthy fats from cacao butter and will not dissolve in hot liquid on its own. It is important to use a mixing method of your choice to ensure the cacao does not all sink to the bottom.

How many servings are in each jar?

Regular Size: approximately 26 Tablespoon or 78 teaspoon servings each

Mini Size: 6-7 tablespoon or 18-21 teaspoon servings each

This makes each cup of Kismet Cacao is less than $2!

What is considered one serving of Kismet Cacao?

we recommend one teaspoon or one tablespoon depending on how rich you prefer your cacao tonic.

How many tablespoons of Kismet Cacao should I have in a day?

We recommend no more than 2 tablespoons per day (unless consumed in a true ceremonial setting) as pure cacao can have a mild dehydrating effect when consumed in high amounts.

Are the Kismet Cacao Blends safe if I’m breastfeeding, pregnant, or on any medications?

How do I store the Kismet Cacao blends?

To prevent any melting, we recommend keeping you jar of Kismet Cacao out of direct sunlight and in an environment below 90 degrees F. For longer shelf life, store in the refrigerator, although it is not necessary.

How much caffeine is in each serving of the Kismet Cacao blends?

The amount of caffeine present in cacao depends on many factors such as it’s origin and growing conditions. Thankfully, the compound Theobromine is present in all cacao in much higher amounts than caffeine. This compound comes with many benefits including the ability to balance out the small amounts of caffeine present in cacao. While we don’t know that exact amount of caffeine in a serving of our Cacao, we estimate that there is 3-20 mg per tablespoon serving. The average 8 oz cup of coffee contains 70-140 mg of caffeine and an average cup of matcha contains roughly 70 mg.
